Overall thoughts

Overall, taking this class is something I truly enjoyed. So many negative things happened this semester that affected me in negative ways, and the immense amount of workload I had for school only added so much stress. But I can honestly say that working on the projects for this class never stressed me out, in fact working on my animations made me happy. Even when I'd end up pulling all-nighters to complete my animations, the projects never felt like work since I loved what I was doing and I was so passionate about it. This class was definitely my favorite class and I'm grateful to have had such great peers and a great professor.

This class made me realize that 2D animation (preferably character animation) is something that I'd absolutely love to pursue as a career, and it's something that I really think will bring me happiness in the future. This winter break, I'm going to create as many animations as I can to hopefully improve my animation skills and to get even more used to Toon Boom Harmony. I'm also going to work to create some pieces for my demo reel which is really exciting!

Pendulum and Overlapping Action

For this project, we were required to animate an object to swing or move like a pendulum (with a secondary action). The first idea I had was to animate one of my original characters reaching into his pocket and taking out a pocket watch, so I went with that idea. Unfortunately I ran out of time and was unable to incorporate a shot of him reaching into his pocket, however I still was able to animate him extending his arm (and the pocket watch swinging from the motion). The folds on the clothing was definitely the most time consuming part, but the pendulum motion was rather easy as I have prior experience with pendulum motions from my prior "Beginning Animation" class (where I animated a pendulum using motion graphics in after effects).

Prior experience and Aspirations

To whoever is reading this, once again, thank you for reading my blog. My name is Trinity Manugas and I'm extremely excited for this upcoming semester, as I'm finally going to dwell into animation (using Toon Boom). In my other courses, I'm going to dwell into digital modeling (in Maya) and storyboarding, however this blog will mostly cover my progress with animation (I'm sure I'll include some of my other projects if I'm proud of them though). When it comes to animation, I'm a complete beginner. The only sort of experience I have with animation would be animating vector images, very basic puppet animation in after effects, as well as basic motion graphic animations using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects (thanks to Professor Corrigan for teaching me these skills in a prior Beginning Animation course I took last year).  In my 2D animation course, I'm mostly excited about character animation.
